Gladys Styles Johnston, a former chancellor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney died Wednesday. She was 79.

Johnston was UNK chancellor from 1993 to 2002.

As UNK’s second chancellor, Johnston oversaw the establishment of a child-care center, the expansion and renovation of the student union, the beginning of the first online courses and enrollment growth from joining the University of Nebraska system.

She hosted the only visit to UNK by a sitting president, Bill Clinton in 2000.

She was living in Scottsdale, Arizona, when she died. Services are pending.
