DONIPHAN – Weightlifting at Doniphan-Trumbull recently experienced a lift of its own.
The old equipment and paint job were beginning to show signs of fatigue, so the school’s booster club paid for some major renovations.
“The equipment was wearing down and we actually had some paint rubbing off,” physical education teacher Dale Kavan said. “The kids would always complain that their hands were getting dirty. Now the kids come down here and the room is brightened up and the white (walls) really make it to where people want to be down here now.”

Extension Update June 29, 2009, 2009

No-Till On The Plains – Points North Bus Tour: In mid-June I had the opportunity along with 26 other Nebraska famers and agronomists to tour no-till operations and visit with no-till researchers in South Dakota. The tour was orchestrated by the No-till On The Plains organization (http://www.notill.org/) and the Nebraska No-till Cadre and funded by the Nebraska Environmental Trust. The tour was especially rewarding for me since I am originally from Potter County South Dakota, home of Cronin Farms, one of our key stops.
Actually we’re neighbors. I grew up creating dust on our side of the fence-line while watching Cronins stir dust on their side.

The Vine - June 11, 2009
By Darren Ivy
Doniphan Herald
Doniphan is back to normal this week after hosting one of the largest events in town history last Friday and Saturday.
Greg Robb’s pasture, however, may take a long time to recover after more than 3,000 people tramped through the mud and muck to attend the events of the 11th annual Cattlemen’s Ball last Friday and Saturday in his field northwest of Doniphan.
Such political dignitaries as Governor Dave Heinemann, U.S. Senator Ben Nelson and Representative Adrian Smith attended the event aimed at “Giving Cancer the Boot.” Many other visitors and media outlets from allt over the State and beyond also came out to Doniphan – what great publicity for the Village of Doniphan. The Cattlemen’s Ball is put on every year by the Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska Inc. as a way to raise money for cancer research at UNMC/Eppley Cancer Center and local healthcare.
